New "Tuscan Dreams" Palette Knife Poppy Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Tuscan Dreams" ©2016 Niki Gulley
24" x 24" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

Inspired from a wonderful trip to Tuscany, I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of joy and energy. Set beneath a colorful sky with a few clouds drifting by on a beautiful day in springtime, the poppies and wildflowers are in full bloom. Using broken impressionistic strokes in surprising hues, causes the landscape to dance and flow, and I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this cheerful scene.

You can paint and photograph these very views if you join us for our Tuscany Workshop in 2017. Don’t miss out on an amazing trip! Space is filling up quickly and there are a few spaces left so that you can experience Tuscany yourself. See nikigulley.com/artreks for details or e-mail Niki Gulley for more information.

For more information on Tuscan Dreams or more of my contemporary impressionistic landscape paintings, please e-mail Niki Gulley.

Tomorrow morning I’ll be shipping out all the pre-orders to flower friends in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and across the US. No worries, though, I’m saving a poppy with your name on it! Little French Houses is the daily newbie in Flower Mound Studio, I've been having fun with my photo library from Southern France this week, and sense a few more of these landscapes will be appearing on my easel over the next week or so! My French brushes are all warmed up, and I sense lavender in their future...

French Village Poppies and Lavender - Flower and Landscape Paintings by Nancy Medina Art

French Village is the newest landscape in Flower Mound Studio, and if the cold weather holds up much longer I'm going to have to relocate my studio! My big studio window lets in so much cold that by the end of each evening's painting session, my toes and fingers are numb. I've tried plugging in space heaters but always blow the circuits here in the front studio. Holy cow I'm going to have to get some hand and foot warmer thingies from the sports store if this cold snap continues much longer! I hope it's warmer where you are. I'm headed to Florida in a few days to teach. My hostess said the weather was 72 degrees yesterday. I can only vaguely remember warm weather, can you?

 Abundance Poppies by Nancy Medina

Abundance Poppies is the newest floral in Flower Mound Studio, finished on Christmas Day - I'm warming up my poppy brushes for poppy bloom in Tuscany in June. Mom and I had Christmas cookies for dinner last night, and this morning we had Christmas breakfast with friends. Carlos is in the kitchen doing what he loves best, cooking - and I have requests for two more plates of holiday cookies before the week is done. I hope you are doing something you love today, with loved ones nearby, and you have much abundance coming your way for the New Year. Holy cow it will be 2015 before we know it!

 Poppy Tango
by Nancy Medina

Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Poppy Tango is part of a new painting video in production, as a double feature with a pansy painting lesson, and will be available early next year (or sooner we can hope!). In the meantime, I'm already planning cool fun stuff to do before 2014 concludes. And one of the most exciting things on the agenda will be a free workshop. Next week, I'll be announcing a free one-day workshop on December 13, right here on the art bloggy. How to win a seat? The first 10 people to respond by emailing me at nancy@nancymedina.com AFTER the announcement is posted next week will be invited to join me for one day absolutely FREE to paint in North Texas at the Jaycee Parks Center for the Arts in Irving, Texas.

This one-day December 13, 2014, workshop also will be open at no charge to everyone who has registered for my August 2015 trip to paint at Le Vieux Couvent. My first France workshop filled in one day, but there are still four seats open for France Aug 4-14, 2015, and I'm reserving a croissant with your name on it, mon cheri!

On December 13, you will be able to visit France without packing, without standing in line for a passport - right here in North Texas, and get your brushes all warmed up for the painting experience of a lifetime. We'll spend the day painting from my France photos (or any of your own!). Stay tuned to the bloggy for the scoop! Who knows, there may even be some - chocolate croissants in it for you mon cheri! If you simply can't wait and must have a seat reserved, you can register for my December workshop immediately and spend three full days painting in brilliant color. - Read more about my December workshop here....

Flowers and Butterflies, by Melissa A. Torres, 16x20 acrylics on canvas

This background for this was created using rubbing alcohol. I first laid down dark blues, then began adding lighter blues, greens, and gold, adding rubbing alcohol to dilute layers of paint. I dripped the alcohol on straight from the bottle.

This piece is available at my Etsy shop. Thank you!

Rise and Shine Again Pink Poppies and Artscape - Flower Paintings by Nancy Medina

 Rise and Shine Again Poppies

I've been drawn to peach and pink combinations lately so expressed a bit of that in a poppy painting tonight. This is a warmup for a big triptych poppy I'm creating especially for my show at Artscape at the Dallas Arboretum. I hope to see you there! Eighty or so artists and I will be out in the gardens in tents and this is my only outdoor event. If you look closely, you'll notice the lady in Booth 43 has green paint on her nose....

I stopped by the Arboretum yesterday morning to pick up my painting, Ribbons in the Sky Tulips, from the Garden Gallery Juried Show and got some colorful tulip photos - there's one on my art blog today to tickle your fancy!

Little Breezy Red Poppies by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

Little Breezy Red Poppies
by Nancy Medina

Oil on Archival Panel
Little Breezy Red Poppies is the newest daily in Flower Mound Studio. I love mixing blues into my greens when I have flowers with warm colors. Pushing your greens into a cooler spectrum makes them pop against reds and fuschias and gives your whole painting a bit of kick. Tomorrow I head to my mother's house for a visit, and tamales are on the menu. My goal is to get her to eat and help booster her appetite a bit! Wish me luck!

Rain Blossom Red Poppies and Santa Barbara Culture Shock by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

It was a busy day in Flower Mound Studio, a trip over the river and through the woods (literally!) to visit mom, putting up the  Christmas tree, and finding an excellent way to eliminate those leftover turkey blues by making Turkey Cheese Sour Creme enchiladas! Tomorrow I will be working on a large commission for one of my favorite Santa Barbara, California, clients whose Mother has requested another of my hydrangea paintings for her home, a partner to one she received a few years ago. The only thing that would make this project better is if I could deliver the painting to her in person, and visit this coastal California town I lived in when I was the editor of a group of veterinary magazines years ago. I did not know at the time that landing a "real" job in Santa Barbara was tantamount to winning a small lottery jackpot, since so many folks would give their eye teeth to live in this idyllic, palm tree festooned, mini paradise framed by beach on one side and rolling hills on the other. Someday I'll tell you the travails of this small town Texas gal who moved to Southern California and tried sometimes successfully, and sometimes disastrously, to fit into an entirely different culture. Suffice to say that inviting my new friends to bring their bathing suits so we could sit in my roommates' hot tub was my first major faux pas. You see, no one had ever been expected to actually WEAR bathing suits in the hot tub until I arrived on the scene. Fortunately there was a happy ending to this story...having met my hubby there and brought him home to Texas with me. But that's a tale for another day!

Free Falling Sunflowers and Poppies by Floral Artist Nancy Medina

It was a banner day in Flower Mound Studio, we had a visitor who flew all the way from Arizona for a private lesson today. Sondra did such a beautiful job on her sunflower and daisy, and whipped out her large painting in just under 2 hours!

Studio helpers AnnieBee and Hannah decided Sondra had actually flown across the country specifically to visit with them. Hannah got to perch on Sondra's lap during my morning demo, and Annie convinced our special guest to throw her toy at least once or twice. Howie and Java joined in the fun at one point, when the doggy gate came down and a bit of pug style pandemonium ensued. Never a dull moment in Howie's house! Thanks so much for visiting Sondra, we hope to see you and Mike again very soon....
