Galveston Dunes, by Melissa A. Torres, 4x4 oil on canvas

Galveston Dunes

This is painted from a photograph I took while in Galveston in September. I purchased a frame for it that is repurposed wood from an old Galveston built circa the early 1900's. I can't wait to see this in it.

There They Stand, by Melissa A. Torres, 5x7 oil on linen

My mom and I spent a few days in Galveston back in September. We'd get up at 4:30 am then walk to get breakfast, and most importantly, a cup of coffee, before sitting on the beach to watch the Sunrise. I took this photo before the Sun came peeking out above the clouds. I think this was our last day there, and I just had to take a picture of this row of palms that we walked past every day.

I used both a brush and palette knife for this painting.

Birds of the Sea, by Melissa A. Torres, 3x3 acrylic and gel medium on canvas

I have been dreaming of the beach lately. Maybe because of all of the bad weather we have had. The beach has always seemed to bring me peace and calm.

This painting was created using lots of gel medium and acrylic paint. I used a palette knife. It was almost like icing a cake. A small brush was used to create the birds.

This was a nice break from the commission on which I am working.

Abalone Shell by Kristine Kainer

Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
20 x 20 x 1.325
Purchase Information

One of the most mesmerizing of shells is the abalone. As a child, I had a large one (purchased in a beach gift shop during a family vacation in Nagshead, North Carolina). I kept my favorite pieces of jewelry in it for years. Sadly, it disappeared some time after I graduated from college (any ideas, Mom?) and I’ve always regretted not having one to paint. (If you are familiar with my work, I ADORE painting sea shells.) Recently, however, I acquired a “new” abalone shell. Look out, world—this is my first abalone painting, but it won’t be my last!

Coastal Edge...Acrylic Seascape...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

I had a few smooth gesso boards in my studio and decided to test the waters (excuse my pun) with acrylics.

I have to say I don't love this surface, it's way too smooth for me, I prefer some tooth to the substrate. However a challenge is always good for us, is it not?

I am an intuitive artist and when I paint any kind of waterscape, I generally make the up image.
I sometimes have a photo to get me started, but they will never be the same as any reference. I feel so long as I capture the 'essence' of the photo I am fine.

I will often do some work prior to actually painting the subject, on my IPad with a stylus, and see what I can 'nut' out.. This is the result.. I hope you like it.

This image is an 8" x 8" acrylic on smooth gesso board

$125 Plus S/H

Starfish by Coastal Artist Kristine Kainer

Starfish
Oil on  Gallery-Wrapped Canvas
24x24

Did you know that starfish can lose a limb at will as a defense mechanism?  Did you know that they can also regenerate limbs after a loss?  Wouldn't it be amazing to have that kind of "technological know-how" in the world of medicine?  The humble starfish--I am in awe....

This is my second favorite
shot from the trip.

This heron seemed to be waiting
oh so patiently for the
fisherman to bring in
the fish and
give him breakfast!

News series FeatherFest 2015.

This is my favorite shot from the trip.
My friend gave it the title
to submit it for critique
by the photography teachers at the program.
They loved the story it told.
I do too!

The title works for both the men fishing together,
as well as the pelicans fishing with the men.
