There They Stand, by Melissa A. Torres, 5x7 oil on linen

My mom and I spent a few days in Galveston back in September. We'd get up at 4:30 am then walk to get breakfast, and most importantly, a cup of coffee, before sitting on the beach to watch the Sunrise. I took this photo before the Sun came peeking out above the clouds. I think this was our last day there, and I just had to take a picture of this row of palms that we walked past every day.

I used both a brush and palette knife for this painting.

Contemporary Colorful Landscape Painting ,Mixed Media, Fine Art For Sale, “Then The Clouds Rolled In” By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

Do you ever look up at the sky and just stop to let your imagination create a story? Most likely your answer is yes. The inspiration for this painting, “Then The Clouds Rolled In” started with me pulling over to the side of the road and gathering photos with my phone. ( I wished I had my sketch book with me to at least note the wild variations of colors but I did try to recreate them in the painting.) I stayed there staring at the sky after I put my phone down and actually took the time to just enjoy and take in the incredible beauty before me. The trees in the distance were standing tall but fighting for importance as the clouds moved and colors shifted. The longer I stared the more the scene unfolded with rich symbolism and pieces of my personal history and of mankind began to weave a story. Do you still take time in your busy day to stop and look at the sky? Does this scene jog a memory of yours? Seems like whatever I imagined or was reminded of was an event of extreme significance and I felt needed to be painted. My work is not even close to the image I saw but I tried to recreate the emotional impact it left on me. Hoping it encourages you to slow down and look up into the sky!

20"x20" Mixed Media on Canvas

This painting is sold, however, commissions are welcome.

Twists and Turns Near Johnson City..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I just finished this pastel..

The surface is the all cotton sanded Pastel Premier paper.. I am liking this surface a lot especially for my landscapes.

The scene is mostly for memory, and is very near Johnson City on the way to Fredericksburg here in Texas.

I pass it a lot in the car, never stopping to take a photo, but it always gets my attention on the highway. That zig zag line again, can't resist!

The colors are very embellished to suit my mood, and I am sure with the end of summer, the river is nowhere near as full as this is, but I am an artist, what can I say?

This image is 12" x 16" unframed

$300 plus S/H

Last Light Over the Hills Frayssinet, France..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Another landscape of the area around Frayssinet in southwest France . This area is dotted with sheep farms, and wonderful pastures.

I just happened to be walking at twilight and saw this heavenly sky, just had to try and do it justice.

I also love this panoramic format, challenging but perfect for this genre.

The substrate is a sanded paper, not sure which one, but it's not Sennelier. Maybe Wallis?

Diving into my stock drawer is a bit of a lucky dip with selecting my papers for pastels. :))

                                              This image is 9" x 25"unframed.

                                                           $500 plus S/H

Maui Riptide..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I guess I felt a need for a completely different genre, so here goes nothing.

This is a scene from my walks on Sugar Beach Maui. It's a long beach and great to stretch my legs.

I just love to watch the waves, and the way the light plays on the top of the crests.

A seascape needs to be studied at length before painting it, after all, it's never still for us, and photos simply don't do it justice.

They flatten the light and dull down the colors.

Having said that, this is a composite from my photos, and a lot is from memory, an impression, that's what I was aiming for.

I hope you like it.

                                                  This image is 9" x 25" unfarmed.
                                                               $500 plus S/H

Rim Light...Landscape..Pastels...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

Call me a romantic, but don't you just love to watch the clouds form especially with an approaching storm?

Well I do.. :))

I had no reference with this one, I just 'felt' the clouds and the movement.

Pastels are such a great medium to portray seascapes and skyscapes. One can 'sculpt' the shapes so seductively, it's as though the artist can become one with the image.

See I told you I was a romantic..

This image is 12.75" x 20" unframed and is for sale.

$295 Plus S/H

Live Oak in Spring by Kristine Kainer

Spring in the Hill Country of Texas is glorious.  Wildflowers such as bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush, and evening primroses blanket the landscape in a kaleidoscope of colors.  This painting attempts to capture the remarkable beauty of the landscape at this time of year after the doldrums of winter.

Commissions welcome.
