"Aransas Bay Piers," by Melissa A. Torres, 5x7 oil on panel

I spent a few days in Rockport, TX, enjoying the beautiful views provided by Aransas Bay. The weather was not too cooperative on some days, but this day it was beautifully sunny. I did a quick painting from our hotel balcony. This was practice in not including every detail I see. It was done loosely with a palette knife. I really enjoy painting this way, although it is difficult for me as well as I am usually very detailed.

Don't be Shy, by Melissa A. Torres, 5x7 oil on linen

I painted from a photo I took in Panna Maria, TX, which happens to be the oldest Polish settlement in the US. This is a smaller version of an 11x14 I did a while back. Mom and I went for a drive in search of wildflowers and found this. I just had to stop and photograph it.

A Eureka Moment by Ann Phifer Reyes

Oil on canvas, 12 x 12 x 1 1/2 inch gallery wrapped canvas.  (The painting continues around onto the sides of the canvas.)  We have lots of ruby throated hummingbirds right now.  I think it's migration season.  I took pictures of many of them and of my hanging baskets and put pictures together for this painting.  I am donating it to the auction at the Museum of East Texas fundraiser, Dinner and Dancing, which is next weekend. annreyesart.com

Journal Entry, Texas 2..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Just finished this journal entry.. a few years ago I was at the banks of the Pedernales River not far from where I live here in Texas. It’s a great spot to paint.

Lately we have had an enormous amount of rain and flooding, so this area is a good place to stay away from till the water subsides.

I used an old photo for this journal entry.
It’s in my Stillman and birn 8” x 10” Beta series journal.

Thanks for visiting..

Rae teaches workshops in both the USA and Europe.

Old Texas Barn, by Melissa A. Torres, 24x30 acrylic on cradled gessobord

I love old barns and Live Oak trees. I was inspired to paint this landscape after seeing so many pictures of Texas landscapes blooming with wildflowers this year. This is done on cradled gessobord. The cradle measures two inches deep and is varnished with a dark walnut stain.

Old Gin, Plein Air, Hutto, Texas

Old Gin at Hutto, Texas

Plein-air painting in Hutto, Texas.  Really enjoyed the day of
painting out.  Hutto City Offices will remodel this landmark in near future, even the holes in roofs.  The tattered roof and sides really made a painting with character.

Sand Dollar by Kristine Kainer

Oil on Gallery-Wrapped Canvas
40 x 30 x 1.5

This sand dollar was found while beachcombing near Galveston, Texas.  In folklore, these skeletal remains of sea urchins were thought to be the lost coins of mermaids.  I wish I had known that when my daughter was younger and the world was filled with magic and wonder!

Blue Crab by Kristine Kainer

Oil
10x8
SOLD

This gorgeous creature was caught off the waters of Galveston.  We were fortunate enough to be on the docks soon after the catch arrived.  We selected half a bushel, headed to our rented beach cottage, and--with plenty of Old Bay-- had a mouthwatering meal that evening.
