Contemporary Floral Impressionist Landscape Painting, “Thank You!” By Passionate Purposeful Painter Holly Hunter Berry

Our neighbor used to have this beautiful plant that towered over our fence. Sadly, it no longer exists but fortunately I have many photos of it taken during the many times I was outside with my dog and just waiting for him to “finish”! Why bother talking about this plant and even paint it? Well….I find myself alone quite often as is the case with many artists and so being aware of my surroundings and being grateful for even the simplest of things is a way I try to live my life. The beautiful color of the flowers with the sun shining overhead was such a pleasure to look at and so I have actually painted several views of this plant! I make it a practice to say “Thank You” as I go through my day…if you aren’t walking in gratitude I’d love to suggest it and then maybe share with me how much more enjoyable your days are! (Can’t hurt!) Make it a colorful day!

A Eureka Moment by Ann Phifer Reyes

Oil on canvas, 12 x 12 x 1 1/2 inch gallery wrapped canvas.  (The painting continues around onto the sides of the canvas.)  We have lots of ruby throated hummingbirds right now.  I think it's migration season.  I took pictures of many of them and of my hanging baskets and put pictures together for this painting.  I am donating it to the auction at the Museum of East Texas fundraiser, Dinner and Dancing, which is next weekend. annreyesart.com

Captured Glory..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I just finished this one today.. loving these Crescent Watercolor Boards.
I stumbled on them a couple of weeks ago and have not looked back since.

The surface is Cold Pressed, and the panel is a rigid support.. so when framing it, one coul even omit having to use foam core onto which to mount the painting.

They come in quite a few sizes too which I like.

Captured Glory is available ..
$450 plus S/H
15” x 20”

Prints of this image are available through Fine Art America.

Pink Glow..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This is another small watercolor I have been playing with of late..
It has been so long since I painted, I was getting very depressed..
We artists need our studio time don't we?

Thanks for sticking with me during this past absence, I tentatively can say I am BACK now! Yay!

Queen For The Day..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This is the completed demo I began last week for the Brenham Arts League here in Texas.

I possibly spent only 30 minutes on the actual demo as I had already done a longer one and time was short.

This image is on white velour paper.

The steps of this are below..

I like to work a lot of negative painting into my background first, and the flower/s evolve as the painting progresses.

I did not pre draw to begin with, merely used 'VEILS' of pastel marks over the surface first to disturb the surface tension.

After this I referred to my photo of a flower and sketched a little over these marks to give me a 'road map' of a flower so to speak.

I like movement in my works, and not sticking to a plan, just allowing the painting to tell me what it wants to do.

Here are the steps.
This image is a pastel on velour paper (unframed)
19.5" x 25.5"
$550 plus S/H

Garden Gaiety..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

A loose and spontaneous watercolor, this one was great fun to paint.

I did not pre-draw anything. I just found shapes onto which to build my flowers after a loose throw of paint.

I am always telling my students to leave the whites of the paper showing through, and to be aware of the shapes they make as well, no two white shapes should be the same size and importance.

If the design is a good one, the painting should be successfully turned in most directions and still look okay.

Try it, this way of painting is very freeing..

Lilies..Pastel...Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

LILIES began with a watercolor throw in. Loose and with no pre-conceived notion of my subject at all.
After the colors all dried, I found I could work flowers into them. What a surprise..lol!

I think FLORALS are possibly the easiest subject for me to go with using this abstract throw in of wet media.

I had this photo of lilies from years ago and decided, with a few moderations, to let it guide me through this painting.

The substrate is UArt paper mounted onto acid free foamcore.
This image is 18" x 12" unframed
$280 Plus S/H

Bountiful..Abstract Floral..Watercolor.. Texas Artist...Rae Andrews

Hot of the press! This is another 12" x 16" unframed watercolor on Arches paper.

Trying to stay as loose and 'playful' as I can with these florals.. Having a great deal of fun.

No pre-drawing at all involved, it's all allowing the paint to move and make the images.

Try it, you will certainly have to let go of all the disciplines of traditional watercolor.

This image comes unframed.
12" x 16"
$150 including S/H within the contiguous USA.

Happy Valentine's Day by Suzy Pal Powell

8x10 oil on canvas
Palette Knife
I wasn't sure I would have a Valentine's Day Post, but I did! I got some tulips yesterday, and worked, or tried to...from the flowers, not a photo.  Every time I looked a the flowers they were opened more, and changing. the small one on the right, just came out looking like a top view, so I made it that way!
Thank you for reading my blog, and some of you comment each time. Thank you. It is fun to get feed back.  This is palette knife painting #4.  I sure enjoy the clean up so much more! BUT. How long does it take to dry, I wonder!
