Santa Fe #1 by Suzy Pal Powell

I decided at the last minute....the day before... to join the 30 paintings in 30 days, starting today.
It is really a challenge just to get something painted each day.  I am planning on doing Santa Fe Gates, but may not be able to stand to paint 30 of them! I am also trying with acrylics, always trying to challenge and push myself to improve.  So far, I don't like acrylics!
they will be posted on my website in the store area if you are interested in buying any of them.

Summer Fun by Suzy Pal Powell

I have been invited to do a workshop with the group 'Sisters on the Fly' in October.
I am so excited to get to meet them and see their cute campers.  This is 'practice' to get ready.
It was fun but a little tedious since it is only 8x10.  The Silver didn't want to stick, so I had some issues with it, but was a fun piece to do!

Brownfield TX by Suzy Pal Powell

This old station building is in Brownfield TX. Every time I go through there, I have to look for it, and see what the shadows look like!  This is poured instead of being painted with a brush. I still may do some tweaking on it.  Once its poured, you have to work with what you have. It is quite a challenge.  I really like the texture you get with this technique.  I thought my first pouring was too dark, but by going even darker under the drive way, it seemed to work.  This is 1/2 sheet so it is large. 22x28 framed.

On Ice by Suzy Pal Powell

This was a fun watercolor! I used a size 38 brush, which is huge,
but it kept me from being too picky with putting the color down.
After I painted it and it was dry,
I used a bamboo calligraphy pen and using waterproof ink,
drew the black lines.  16x20 with a mat and frame.

I have worked several days on this collage. I have an oriole nest to work from. They are unbelievable!
The way they find strings, twine and other stuff to go into the baby's home!
I have one that has 3-4 different colors of stuff in it. I just love to study them.

Fan Quilt by Suzy Pal Powell

I am still trying to paint each day. I did miss yesterday because I had a class, but finished this one today.

This was painted from the first Quilt I made.
I ended up making 2 so both kids would have one. Boy they are a lot of work! After doing the spools, it made me want to drag out some quilts and see if I could paint it. I spent a lot more time on this than any of the others.  I can see some things I should have done differently.  Maybe I will on the next one!
It is 6x6 Oil on gessobord.
I am learning more and more about oil painting, and am enjoying the challenge.

I re-did the bird nest, by adding some branches. It was just in midair actually!

These are available.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

2014 was a great year.  Last year at this time, we were in a tizzy due to farming, and Ken quitting, but it passed so fast, and it has worked out good, especially for him.  No more worries about what the weather was going to do, paying bills, etc.  All the stuff that goes along with farming.  Not only that, our entire family has been healthy all year, and we added a new member.
Our Grandson got married in June.
I have been blessed with a building to teach in, and have had good participation in my classes!
I also have a lot of great family and friends that support me and encourage me, and I can't imagine
anything else I would even ask for! Health AND Friends! We are blessed.
My prayer is that we will all have a special 2015...healthy and happy.
This year... May 31,2015...Ken I will celebrate our 50th anniversary, and that I can hardly believe!

Plains,TX Motel Sign by Suzy Pal Powell

Friday while I was in town, I decided to sketch our old motel sign.
It was such a gorgeous day, and I did one with a tomboy and ink,
then I got a larger sketchbook,
and re-did it. I had such fun sitting there drawing it in real life!

Storytelling-Sketchbook Skool

Storytelling-Sketchbook Skool
The Homework was to illustrate a recipe as well as a manual on  'how to do something'
So, I tried to simplify after doing the huge pie! My manual is on 'how to plant Tulip Bulbs'
and another recipe on Breakfast Burritos. Where we live burritos are a big part of our menus.
You can make a burrito out of most anything, but is really good with eggs, peppers and potatoes!

30 Day Challenge -Suzy Pal Powell

I Signed up for the 30 day challenge...Paint 30 Paintings in 30 days like I did in January.
I am not sure if I can do it this time but I will try.
I decided my theme 'might' be paintings from mine and my daughter's trips. Each year since 2002 we have tried to go somewhere.
The first two are  from Maine. It is a watercolor 5x7.
The last one is from NY.

Dawn's Early Light by Suzy Pal Powell

This is late! I meant to post it July 4th. I did it in celebration of the 4th (as well as a challenge from Laurie Pace)  But...we can celebrate America and being an American each day. I know I take it for granted.  How is it that we were blessed enough to be born here? We could have been born in another country, looking towards America. I love America! My prayer is that we will pray more for our country.
I still have one or two spots left in my collage class coming up July 25-26th. grab a friend and join us!
