I fell in love with the Garconnier at Houmas House Plantation during my visit to New Orleans a few weeks ago. My awesome hostess Sylvia Arb lives not too far from Houmas House Plantation, also known as the Sugar Palace, named for the thriving sugar industry that existed there years ago. The Garconnier were built as housing for teenage boys, who weren't considered fit company for proper society, according to our tour guide. I rather picture these more as abodes for princesses, don't you?
