Splash, by Melissa A. Torres, 12x24 mixed media on canvas

I have been taking a break from my traditional painting to experiment with something that has been used by a friend of mine for some time. Resin. At first I was terrified of it. I watched countless Youtube videos and read numerous "How to" articles online. I finally decided, "What do I have to lose." I found out I love it! It is messy at times, and can be unforgiving. Any little hair or dust can ruin your final product, but guess what??? You can sand it and add another layer, giving you another try to achieve perfection.

This painting was created using acrylic paints, Isopropyl alcohol, and micas.  Several layers of resin were poured instead of my usual varnishing technique. I love how the resin gives a glassy look and feel to the work.

Happy Anniversary to Me! by Pamela Blaies

Polished Silver Shine
18" x 14"
oil on linen

Today is my wedding anniversary of 16 years! My sweetheart is a great husband and father. Without his support, I would never be able to survive this crazy artist life! I'm thankful for him every day.

Here is a brand new painting I just finished yesterday. I enjoyed the challenge of creating atmosphere around the pitcher to make the freshly polished silver pitcher shine right off the canvas.

Taming Pthalo by Pamela Blaies

6" x 6"
oil on linen

I've gotten a little behind on my posting and blogging. It's been a fun and full week with the kids' end of school parties, getting them ready for camp and my mom visiting. Today I will be working on painting #71 of 100. This petite painting project is so fun - experimenting with color and light, exploring composition and daily practice! On this one, I used Pthalo Blue instead of Ultramarine, just to see what it can do. It is strong and a little tough to tame, but wow, what beautiful deep reds it can make!
