She Still Waves, by Melissa A. Torres, 16x16 acrylic on canvas

I painted this to represent the resiliency and pride of the Puerto Rican people. In spite of their recent tragedy, they continue to move forward. I have a lot of family there, and am happy/grateful  I did not lose any of them in the hurricanes.

It is available for purchase.

Imagines Boricuas, by Melissa A. Torres, 36x24 acrylic on canvas

I have been working on this painting for over a month and I'm happy to say it is finally finished. It is a compilation of all of the things that remind me of Puerto Rico.

El Flamboyan en mi Camino, by Melissa A. Torres, 16x20 oil on canvas

I love the Flamboyan of Puerto Rico. Known also as the Royal Poinciana plant, this brightly colored plant is found in many tropical places throughout the world.
This painting was mostly created using a palette knife and thick paint. The texture is wonderful. I usually paint in acrylics, but I love the thickness and color of oils.

El Camino del Flamboyan, by Melissa A. Torres, 16x20 acrylic on canvas

El Flamboyan, or Flamboyant Tree, is noted for its fern-like leaves and flamboyant display of flowers. In many tropical parts of the world it is grown as an ornamental tree and in English it is given the name Royal Poinciana or Flamboyant. It is also one of several trees known as Flame tree

I love trees, but this one by far is my favorite.  They are all over the island in Puerto Rico, which is where this painting was inspired.

This painting is available at my Etsy shop.

Flamboyan, by Melissa A. Torres, 10x10 oil on canvas

Flamboyan, in Spanish, or the Flamboyant Tree. Painted from a photograph taken on our trip to Puerto Rico in 2011. The Flamboyan Tree is just about everywhere on the island. The color is amazing. I tried to depict is as best I could in this painting, but nothing beats the real thing of course.

Feathered Friend, by Melissa A. Torres, 10x10 water mixable oils on canvas

This painting was created using a photo I took while vacationing in Puerto Rico.  We were at a restaurant in Salinas (Salt Flats) over looking the water. There was a wild life preserve nearby, so there were various birds to see.
