New "Through the Keyhole" Palette Knife Oil Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Through the Keyhole” ©2019 Niki Gulley
20” x 16” textured oil painting

I love the twisting, textured limbs of old oak trees, and the way these two branches formed a keyhole view of the forest beyond was fascinating. Arching the branches upward suggests a touch of whimsey like climbing a tree when you’re a kid. Loaded with texture and surprising pops of color, I hope you, too, are transported to an enchanted place filled with hope and wonder.

If you have any questions about my palette knife paintings, please e-mail Niki Gulley.

New "If a tree Falls" Textured Oil Painting by Texas Artist Niki Gulley

"If a Tree Falls" ©2019 Niki Gulley
24" x 18" Textured oil painting

I always love going to Turtle Creek, the natural oasis the city has created in the middle of Dallas. This painting was inspired from a time when you could actually climb down the rocks and enjoy the beautiful stream from below, being completely isolated from city noise and housing. I was drawn to these large abstract sweeping patterns of the water and land meeting with just a trickle of light illuminating the foliage in the distance and one lone trunk that has fallen.

"Peaceful Destination" Oil Painting by Palette Knife Painter Niki Gulley

“Peaceful Destination” ©2019 Niki Gulley
SOLD • 9" x 12” textured oil painting on canvas

Just Sold! Early on a fall morning the sun breaks softly through leafy branches and casts early autumn’s palette across the creek. Silent water is ruffled by a gentle breeze. Arching over, bending into the quiet waters, a tree arches into the scene – encompassing, embracing. This painting captures the dreamy reflections and tranquil landscape of one of my favorite spots to paint on location near my home. It is painted in the traditional plein air oil manner, incorporating some heavy texture with palette knife.

A Wandering..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I just finished this one. It's of the river area near my home. I have done several plein air paintings of it.
This one however, I painted in the studio today, from my photograph.

Green on green is beautiful in nature, but in a painting, it tends to be a bit much of the same thing for me.

I usually play with complimentary colors, such as the orange/red family and even some blue/mauve colors as small accents amongst the green.

I hope you like this one. For me, it was very meditative to paint.

This image measures 16" x 20" unframed
$550 plus S/H

Portofino Drift..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Finally finished this one.. Pastel on red Sennelier paper.

I am a part of a pastel presentation for Austin Pastel Society on Sunday 28th October  (approx. 3.30-4.30 pm) at Precision Camera in Austin. Please come along if you want to see a fun demonstration by 5 artists.

You would be most welcome. We have a silent auction at the end of each work, and the money raised goes into our scholarship fund.

This presentation is called a PAINT AROUND where all five artists begin on their own artwork for first ten minutes, then it is passed around to the next artist for them to do another ten minutes pastelling  on it.
The demo lasts one hour with the artwork ending up in front of the original artist, for them to 'tweak' what the other artists have done to their work.

Great fun!

The above pastel painting is me getting in readiness for this presentation.

Waterline..Pastel..Texas..Rae Andrews

First of all let me apologize for my absence and lack of posting of late. I had a family health crisis and needed to take some time away from my painting.
It's been like losing my right arm, and I JUST HAD TO GET BACK INTO MY STUDIO!

That happened late yesterday, and this is the finished result.

It's a pastel image on Sennelier pastel paper (unframed)

This image is 12" x 16" unframed.

$225 plus S/H

A Peace Beyond...Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

I just finished this one, which I began yesterday afternoon.

It is on a mystery paper I had in my file drawer so don't ask what it is..:((

It is was a cream sanded paper though however not one I was familiar with.

The size of this image is 19.5" x 25.5 " unframed.

My reference was a lily pond photo I took while in France last May. The fish I actually made up. The magically appeared so voila!

AS is my general practice I nudged color in Photoshop, although this image was pretty colorful to begin with I have to say.

$550 plus S/

Just Turning..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

JUST TURNING is a scene from the area of Hamilton Pool here in Texas, the river is the Pedernales.

I love this area, so full of things to paint. I used Photoshop to embellish and vamp up my colors with this one, something I do a fair bit..

This image is done on a mauve colored Canson TOUCH paper, not one of my favorites I have to admit, just not enough 'tooth' to it for my style of painting.

Image size is 22" x 28" unframed
$525 plus S/H

Another of these different shaped formats, I love to challenge myself with something out of the norm.

This pastel is all about the sky as was the last one I posted, and completely made up (again), as with the last post.

The substrate is Sennelier sanded paper.

                                                Image size is 5.25" x 12" unframed

Amazing Grace..Watercolor..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

This is a large watercolor on Arches cold press paper.

It captures the feeling I had while walking in a wonderful area in France a few weeks ago, a hidden lagoon with reflections ..I scrambled through the dense forest to get to this place and boy oh boy, what a reward!landscape, reflections, trees, forest, water, bold colors, texas artist rae andrews, fine art prints, fine art workshops

Just captivating and this scene stayed has with me wanting to be painted for weeks. I took many photos of this area but as usual photos cannot completely give the same awesome feeling one gets when they are actually there looking at the scene.

For this reason I did this mostly from memory. I used my photos to 'bounce' but in the end, the scene is really out of my memory/feeling reserve.

I also embellished my colors a lot as France is so GREEN, and it's overwhelming to me in a painting. Hence my use of some warm accents, which truthfully were not there at all.

Hope you like this one, it was a fun image to paint and I know I will be painting more from this area in the future.

Lily Pond Light Dance..Pastel..Texas Artist..Rae Andrews

Yep, I know, try saying that title fast three times.. Ha! I just thought it fit this image though, so what the heck.

The pond was in Le Vieux Couvent in France,  and was magical. Filled with frogs all singing and trying to find LOVE.

I did embellish this with some of the foliage, the monstera was not there, but  I had a nice photo from which to bounce and decided to place it in for an accent element.

This image is a pastel on a mystery sanded paper I had.
It is 10.75" x 14.75"

$325 plus S/H unframed
