Commission. While I love my pet portraits and am very grateful to those who commission me to paint their furry family members, this was a nice change. I haven't painting this large in quite some time so it was a bit of a challenge in the beginning. This is a painting of a ranch here in TX. It will be going to Seattle soon.

I sure do miss 12-hour shifts. They're long, but there is nothing like only working for three days and being off for four. Days off allowed for drives like this. This was painted from a photo I took while David and I were taking a drive through the Texas Hill Country several years ago.

I love, love, love cactus. There is just something so beautiful about them. I especially love the rustic feel the old, rusty fences add. I painted this from a photo I took during a walk here in San Antonio at OP Schnabel Park. I cannot wait until the wild flowers bloom. So much more subjects to paint.

Old Texas Barn, by Melissa A. Torres, 24x30 acrylic on cradled gessobord

I love old barns and Live Oak trees. I was inspired to paint this landscape after seeing so many pictures of Texas landscapes blooming with wildflowers this year. This is done on cradled gessobord. The cradle measures two inches deep and is varnished with a dark walnut stain.
