Ground Swell
36"x36"x1.5"
Acrylic/Mixed on Canvas
I
painted this piece a couple of years ago. Although the composition is a
simple one, this painting has several complex elements that add to the
overall design. A palette knife was used to apply red and black paint
in the center of the painting. I also applied metallic gold leaf to
draw the eye into the painting. The background is an interesting
experiment I did with diluted gesso and alcohol on a sand colored base.
The black, red and blue hard edge band in the lower part of the
painting are a contrast to the overall free-flowing design of this
work. It doesn't show well in this image, but the red band has a
"ribbed" textural pattern and the black band has been finished in glossy
acrylic varnish.
