Horse 56 Ode to Joy by Laurie Pace

 Size:8 x 10  Oil on Canvas.

This painting is thick.  It is really thick. I have some additional close up images on the main website if you want to see them. I loved the way the colors blended throughout the background and in the center of the horse. His head is tilted up to feel the sun on his face in the early morning cool breeze. The grass is wet and covered in dew and the day has just begun.

Do you stretch in bed and feel this way sometimes? Eager to get up and start your day?  That is one wonderful thing about life, we are not 'stuck' to a time clock, but we still stay responsible to what needs to be accomplished in our lives. What brings your joy to the surface? Mine is the early morning sunrise.

He is like the light of morning at sunrise on a cloudless morning, like the brightness after rain that brings grass from the earth. 2 Samuel 23:4

Summer Rains Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014

Summer Rains
9 x 12 inches Oil on Canvas.
Available Paintings by Laurie Pace

Quiet colors, a bit off the beaten path for this artist, but really nice for a change. The muted violets and the soft yellow greens bring intrigue into the painting...and for some dissonance a bit of orange.

We all have that in our lives you know... that dissonance... the part of us that flares out different from the core of who we are. Mine is the color red that 'flares' up in my life occasionally in clothes and now in the color of my car.  It is like the 'rebel' in me I guess. Red was my Dad's favorite color and when he was in his last year of life I bought my car, my red car, and it's name is Gerald after my dad.

Whirlwind Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2014

Whirlwind
24 x 36 inches Oil on Canvas.
Available by clicking here.

Reposting this one. It is dry and ready to travel to a new home. It was painted in early January and had been sketched on the canvas for about six months before I finally painted it.  Laced with color, contrast, thick paint and lots of energy, this unusual horse painting is ready to take off with your heart.

Yesterday was Stacey's birthday... my daughter turning 37. We had a girl day at the salon with highlights, cuts and the works. Even Lady L got to participate. Then it was a wonderful early birthday dinner with family for her special gathering and then back to our house for cake prepared by Kelly and Morgan.  It was a 'yummy' day and we are so blessed.

Needless to say, I did not step into the studio or down at my computer the entire day.  I have a new piece on the easel and tomorrow will post the beginning progress shots. It is a painting for a collector in Colorado of buffalos.

Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. 1 John 4:11-12 KJV

Just Horse'n Around by Suzy Pal Powell

I normally don't have problems naming my paintings but for some reason, I had trouble naming him, and it may change! The background and mane is gouache. The rest is transparent watercolor. Also, it is on 300 lb. hot press, which is a very different paper to paint on.  If you haven't used it, it is soft and when you put the color down, if you don't soften the edges immediately it just dries there. Very quickly.  It was a challenge because the photo was back lit and the sun was coming through his eye and whiskers. I was coming home from Portales NM, and saw him in Tatum, NM and I hit my brakes, and turned around for photos! He was just beautiful, but then I think all horses are!
 It will be 18x24 framed.

Right now it is in the 'Hanging out" mode while I study it over a week. Changes can always happen. The most important change is being back in the studio painting.

When we are faced with problems and tough issues, we must believe that God has his way in place and we must trust. Believe me as I feel like this has lasted a very long time, since the second week of December in fact.   I sort of missed out on Christmas and New Years. But for whatever reason, I am home and not out and about among people right now.  I am going to take this week to slowly gain back strength and paint again.  Terry has been awesome keeping up with all the house keeping and the cooking.  In fact he is down there right now cooking as I am blogging.

And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 2 Kings 2:11

White Runner Contemporary Horse Painting by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

© G.O.D. Laurie Justus Pace      Graphics One Design 2013

White Runner
16 x 20 inches Oil on Canvas.

A painting I did in August that is available.  Brilliant colors and a more impressionistic representational horse in this painting.

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.  1  John 1:5

Art Lesson on line and color by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Art Lesson using Line and Color

This week I want to work on an exercise to loosen your thoughts and inspire your creativity.  Painting is ahead but I want some foundation and work done before doing a lot of painting. You need to be using all the elements and having full grasp of different mediums at the same time.

If I gave you the math problem of 8 + 3 = N, you know how to solve for N.  But how many ways can you get there?  That is limited. If I give you the art problem of Line + Color = N , N is limitless. You can do this with Paint, you can do this with crayons, you can do this with markers, you can do this with craypas or watercolors or anything. You can even collage using lines and color.

There is no given subject, no given rules or guidelines.  Here is a painting I did in 2008.  Gives you an idea  to loosen you up with thoughts and plan a composition of maybe a vase with flowers...or a cityscape with the buildings in black and white and the sky in colors.

Three in the Rain, Contemporary Horse Paintings by Texas Artist Laurie Pace

Three in the Rain
by Laurie Justus Pace
8 x 10 Oil

I will always remember this painting. I did it the day I found out my dearest sorority sister, friend, godmother to my daughter, sister... had been shot and was dead.  I was just finishing this piece up when my daughter called to tell me.  It seems like the void left in the past three years, almost four, has not really been filled.  Artists have to experience all emotions to bring into their work. This definitely affected my work for the next few years.
