Day 7:  Ireland ART TREK
Afternoon location: Ross Castle, Killarney

Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

On the last afternoon of our Ireland Art Trek, we visited Ross Castle. While the photographers explored the castle and grounds, the painters set up their easels to capture this majestic view of the castle and lake. Although we didn't have enough time to finish, you can get idea of the overall scene and the fast moving clouds with a tiny patch of blue sky poking through. Afterwards, we enjoyed a peaceful boat tour of the lake and came back to our home base, to share our photos and paintings of our trip. What a great way to end a wonderful Art Trek with new friends!

I recently was commissioned to paint this colorful covered bridge from Vermont surrounded by the gorgeous fall foliage. Created with palette knife and thick oil paint, the final painting is filled with color, texture and energy. I hope you, too, are transported to this idyllic New England setting.

During our Tuscany Foodie Trek, we visit the wine mecca of Montepulciano and tour a couple of wineries while sampling their delicious Rosso and Vino Nobile wines. Besides loving their red grapes, I also have fallen in love with the beautiful landscape around there. One night we stopped to capture the setting sun and the golden hour before sunset where everything the sun touches gets bathed in a gorgeous yellow orange glow, creating dramatic highlights and long shadows.

During our Tuscany Foodie Trek, we stay in the middle of the countryside at a villa surrounded by 360 degree views of the rolling hills and valleys and nearby hill towns. One of the best vantage points and probably my favorite town in Tuscany is Pienza. Perched on high, the city towers over everything around and seems to actually draw the passing clouds to its bell tower and church steeple. This was a particularly gorgeous morning with beautiful puffy white clouds drifting by that created dramatic shadows in the recesses and golden light as it hit the autumn fields.

My husband and I recently visited Positano situated along the Amalfi Coast of Italy and were awestruck by its beauty. Since it hugs the coast, there are gorgeous views around every turn of the colorful houses and rooftops overlooking the tranquil blue harbor. With this amazing view on our walk into town every day with its iconic tiled church, I decided I had to stop and paint it! Loaded with color and texture, I hope my painting transports you to this idyllic location and brings back wonderful vacation memories.

My husband and I recently visited the Amalfi Coast of Italy and were awestruck by its beauty. Continuing our journey along the west coast of Iceland, I was taken by their simplistic architecture, often topped with bright red roofs to add a pop of color to the natural landscape. In the next several paintings, you’ll see I chose a different house or barn each day and set out to capture its shape, the colors and light hitting the structure, and the picturesque, idyllic, quiet scenery surrounding the building in all directions. Here is my last one, where we got up to capture sunrise. The setting had such a beautiful glow to it that I wanted to recreate that warmth in the foreground and sky contrasted against the cool distant mountains. Created with palette knife and oil paint, this piece is full of surprising pops of color, texture, energy and joy.

Today we continued our counterclockwise adventure around Iceland to arrive in the north, near the massive, impressive Godafoss waterfall. Unfortunately, our weather turned for the worse, and it was way too wet to paint the falls. However, just over the mountain, 20 minutes away at our b and b, the skies were fairly clear with even occasional glimpses of sunshine. I loved these birch trees all over their property, leading you down to the gorgeous view of the mountains in the distance. Sprinkled with summer wildflowers, I set out to capture the light casting long shadows from the trunks and causing the grasses to glow in the foreground, leading to a feeling of joy and serenity in this beautiful spot.

Vermont Fall Foliage Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Day 3, Morning Location - Northfield, VT

Just Sold through Brandon Jacobs Gallery! On the third day of our New England Fall Foliage Art Trek that my husband and I led, we checked out of our lodging in Woodstock and headed to Northfield, home of 5 different covered bridges. We set up our easels near one of the bridges, attracted to its bright red wood, surrounded by the gorgeous fall foliage. I loved this view of the first bridge framing the second ruby bridge in the distance – something we definitely don't see in Texas! I hope you, too, are transported to this idyllic New England setting.

Day 6:  Ireland ART TREK
Afternoon location: Dingle Peninsula and Killarney Castle

Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

On the 6th afternoon of Ireland Art Trek, we continued to paint on the castle grounds while the photographers and tourists finished exploring the Dingle Peninsula. I chose to paint the castle's guest house because I love how it was nestled back in the woods, feeling so nostalgic of a visit to grandma's in the country. The massive unusual pine trees were so awe-inspiring that I used them to frame the right half of the scene, leading your eye down the path to the yellow house safely tucked in among the lush foliage. A soft light would appear off and on, illuminating the scene and creating that unique Irish light. That evening we all reconnected and dined again on another delicious dinner in town.

After we finished teaching our Art Trek to Vermont, my husband and I stayed another few days to try to capture the gorgeous scenery on canvas and film. This morning, we ventured up to the majestic overlook by the Von Trapp property to capture the spectacular scenery. I loved how this cabin was perfectly tucked into the mountainside surrounded by vibrant fall foliage. The slightly overcast day made the colors pop even more! I hope you, too, can enjoy the crisp autumn air and a peaceful escape from the bustle of city life.

Vermont Fall Foliage Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Day 2: Woodstock

On the second day of our New England Fall Foliage Art Trek that my husband and I led, we decided to paint right at our b and b because the grounds were so beautiful. Meanwhile the photographers and tourists, visited the nearby towns to photograph covered bridges, wooden barns and the gorgeous fall foliage. I decided to paint this regal birch tree next to our inn. I liked how it was perched on top if this hill, extending towards the sky. The vibrant yellows and orange leaves vibrated with energy against the clear blue sky, and I wanted to capture that feeling on my canvas. What a great way to spend the day!

Painting and Photographing in Stowe, VT with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Vermont Fall Foliage Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

Stowe, VT

On the fourth day of our New England Fall Foliage Art Trek, we headed to the top of Stowe Mountain to explore. The painters set out to capture this gorgeous forest ablaze with color. I loved the split rail fence lining the walkway. Meanwhile, the photographers and tourists ventured on foot through the forest and then continued to explore by car the surrounding area, picking us up for lunch on their return. 

That afternoon we visited local cheese and cider companies tasting Vermont's treats. In the evening we enjoyed viewing everyone's paintings and watching the photographers' slide shows from the week. Afterwards we delighted in one last dinner together. A great treat with new friends after a fun-filled day!
